How to enable and configure a double opt-in flow for new contacts

Based on your local laws and regulation you might be required to have new Contacts confirm their Subscription through a double opt-in process.

  • Double opt-in is a good practice to ensure a quality text list with higher engagement.
  • Note that if you have double opt-in enabled, new Contacts will be visible in your account only after they have confirmed their subscription through double opt-in.

How does double opt-in work?
  • When a new Contact signs up to your Text list on one of your onsite collection forms, they will first receive the double opt-in message on the phone number they signed up with.
  • It’s a good practice to give a heads up to your new Contacts that they need to confirm their subscription. You can add this message in your onsite form’s success screen.
  • In the double opt-in message the Contact needs to click on the opt-in landing page link.
  • Once the Contact is redirected to the opt-in landing page, they need to click on the confirmation button.
  • The Contact’s status is now updated to “Subscribed” and will automatically receive the Welcome message.

1. Go to Onboarding flows

  • Log into your Grow account at https://platform.grow.up.st/
  • Click on the top-right corner of the navigation menu and click on “Settings”.

  • From the left-hand menu click on “Onboarding flows”

2. Enable double opt-in

  • Click on the switch to enable double opt-in.

3. Enter the double opt-in message text

  • This is the first text that your new Contacts will receive after they sign up to your Text list.
  • Make sure the call-to-action to confirm their subscription is strong and concise.
  • Enter your double opt-in message text in the Text area in the “Opt-in message” section.
  • Important: make sure to add the tag {{doubleoptin.url}} in your message to link your opt-in landing page
  • Be ware of the character count to optimize the number of SMS messages that will be sent for your Welcome message.

Special characters: Note that special characters are not allowed in SMS messages.

4. Configure the opt-in landing page

  • This is the landing page to which your Contacts will be redirected to from the double opt-in message to confirm their subscription.
  • Under the Landing Page section add the following:
    • Title: This is the main heading of your opt-in landing page.
    • Subtitle: A brief sentence to give more clarity to your Contacts.
    • Button text: The text that will be shown on the button of your opt-in landing page. This is the main call-to-action, use direct and action-oriented language.
    • Confirmation Title: The title of the confirmation page that your Contacts will be redirected to once they confirm their subscription.
    • Confirmation Subtitle: The subtitle of the confirmation page that your Contacts will be redirected to once they confirm their subscription.

5. Save your changes

  • Don’t forget to click Save at the bottom of the page to submit your changes and enable the double opt-in flow.
